What is the best way to get train tickets from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen, then on to Schilthorn one day and Jungfraujoch the next? I've got a 5 day Global Pass which I'll be using in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland. The Global Pass takes me to Interlaken from points in Germany, but I need to get to Lauterbrunnen (rail not covered by Global Pass from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen). Then I'll be staying in Lauterbrunnen for 3 nights and would like to take the Swiss trains/cable cars to Schilthorn one day and Jungfraujoch a second day. It looks like I will get a discount on the Swiss rail/cable car tickets with the Global Pass, but does that mean I need to use one of my 5 days (or two in my case) to take advantage of the discount? And could/should I purchase them here or wait until I get to Europe? Thanks for any advice!
Just buy the tickets on the day at the station. There is no discount for advance purchase. Buying on the day allows you to amend your plans depending on the weather.
Will I need to "use" one of my 5 days to get the discount with the Global Pass?
No, you don't use one of your 5 counted days to get the percentage discounts with a Eurail pass. Just carry the pass and be prepared to show it to ticket agents and conductors. You probably will buy most of these tickets from a person, not a machine.
Thank you Laura!
