I have a question about the Gondola. It looks like when you purchase a ticket on the website that it's good for 2 days? I'm assuming this is in case of bad weather. But, I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. If I purchase a ticket, it's good for a 2 day period and I can use it for either? Is that right? Any suggestions on purchasing the tickets, or the trip up? Thanks in advance!
I was very curious when I read this and my immediate reaction was 'no'...but I was wrong. A return ticket is actually valid for 10 days, a one way ticket (that is what they mean by 'single') is valid for 2 days. Unless you are planning on hiking down, you want a 'return' ticket.
Here is a discussion regarding that in the SBB Q&A

This doesn't mean you can go up and down multiple times, but it allows there to be days in between parts of the journey - this is indeed due to rapid changes in weather and also to facilitate alpine hikers and climbers.
Obviously I have never done this before, but I would suggest purchasing your ticket here - the Matterhorn mountain railways website (Zermatt Bergbahnen):
