Glacier Express Zermatt-St. Moritz

Hello,

I am currently trying to book a reservation for the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz. I'm interested to know if anyone has ever booked online with them and knows which seat would be on the south facing side of the train. I'm trying to pick my seat and would like to know the best option as Rick Steves suggests on page 342 of his guidebook.

Thanks!

If the train is heading east, then wouldn't the south side of the train be on your right if you are facing the front of the train? Don't know if that helps.

Sorry, but nowhere does it tell you which way an individual carriage is going because it can change. And you won't know which side will be the south side until you get on the train. IMHO, both sides have good views. You can get up and move around on the train. Maybe there will be some empty seats on the other side of the aisle if you guessed wrong.

The train reverses in Chur, doesn't it? I think people fret too much about a "best side" on this route. There are interesting things to see on both sides, all the anxiety is for a mere 10sec. view of a viaduct. If you are on a panoramic car, views will be gorgeous provided there is no dense fog, regardless of the side you are sat. Don't worry about it and don't spend much time on this minute detail of your travel planning either.

Thank you, folks! You're all right. It's better to simply enjoy the trip rather than worrying about it. Thank you.

On a side note, it's crazy how fast this route is filling up already!

Hi we did the Glacier Express back in 2013, but we did it from St Moritz to Zermatt travelling Class 1. The panorama car had great scenery with its huge windows that span across the roof as well... And I can tell you it is totally awesome. We loved it as I'm sure so will you...

Yes we booked through the Glacier Express web site... Don't get too hung up on seat and direction. I can't remember at what station it was but engines changed and went on the other end of the train so the direction changed... There is also the option to pre-book your meal... If there is only the town of you, in Class 1 they also have couple seats, that are single seats across from each other... Thats where we sat...
