Glacier Express -Whwre to stay

Just starting to plan, but outline of trip is 7 days in Switzerland (including arrival day) and want to depart to Munich on day 7 0r 8 . Planning to take Glacier express and include a stay somewhere where we can enjoy the scenery, do excursions, and walks,(its dad 82 and me 58). Any suggestions? I have been to Wengen/Jumgfrau and loved that area but don't know if one week is adequate to add that. (The Glacier Express is the only definite).

Should I add the Bernini Express and stay in one of the towns where you can connect to the Glacier Express? Or stay in Zermatt?Dad is very energetic but we would do walks NOT hikes
Thanks so much

At the east end of the Glacier Express, you might stay at St. Moritz, Samedan, or Pontresina, all covered in Ricks' Switzerland book. If you stay at Pontresina, you make a connection to the official Glacier Express departure at Samedan. At the western end, I expect that you plan to visit Zermatt. Those stays at either end need to be at least 2 nights to give you a full day to explore each one, and a full day for the train in between.

Switzerland is small enough that you can cross to any other town within a day. On a related note, Swiss railways also have a handy baggage handling service, allowing you to check in a bag by 9 a.m. and pick it up after 6 p.m. at nearly any train station.

If you have not been to Appenzell, that's another lovely town at the foot of a mountain lift and with excellent cheese. It's in the direction of Germany, but does take a few connections to reach.

How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it, or the SBB Swiss web site works similarly.
