How and when can we purchase tickets for the Glacier Express on a specific day? We plan to travel from Disentis to Zermatt on September 26. Also, how can we ensure four people can sit together?

You have asked your question just in time. Seat reservations can be made exactly 93 days in advance. We took the Glacier Express last year on Sept 27 and I bought our 3 seat reservations on June 26th very early in the morning. When I tried to get seat reservations first class was already sold out and limited seats were available in coach. I tried several times between 6 pm and midnight the day before as it was the 26th in Switzerland, but the web site would not let me buy seat reservations. One you select your train and number of seats you will be able to select your seats from their seat map. Be mindful of the direction that the seats face. I suggest you experiment with their website before the 25th to get familiar with it. Note that you only need to sort out the reservations now. The ticket you can buy later. You must have your ticket, and your reservation when you board the train.
Waiting with the ticket allows you to think if you want to buy a Swiss Travel Pass, or the Half Fare Card.

The Glacier Express website does not list Disentis as a stop, so you will have to confirm that it does stop there (SBB says it does) and figure out how to make the reservation.

Regular regional trains riding the same tracks do stop at Disentis, and you do not need a reservation for those.

Yes, the Glacier Express does stop at Disentis/Muster. In fact, it stops for about 30 minutes for a crew change as this the border between Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn and Rhaetische Bahn, the joint operators of the Glacier Express train. Just check the schedule at www.sbb.ch. 12:37, 13:37, 15:37.

Yes, I saw the Disentis/Muster stop on the SBB schedules for the Glacier Express. It just seems odd that it isn’t listed as a station option on the Glacier Express website. Do they choose Andermatt as their point of origin when making seat reservations?

If that were the case, you would reserve from Chur. It is the same price either way for seat reservations to Zermatt.
