I have been planning a Swiss trip for the last couple of months. One of the things I wanted to do was take the Glacier Express train. Did some reading on line and watched some videos. I learned you can’t book seat reservations earlier than 93 days out at 0100 Swiss time. Did some practice runs as the day approached and as it got closer to summer I learned that the seats go very quickly. I also learned that tour companies get earlier access and block seats making it difficult for us that just want to book on our own. So today was the day and the games began at 0100 Swiss. We were looking for first class seat reservations on the single row. I thought I had grabbed a couple and then would receive a not available message. Moved to the next row and same message. Yes, these seats were showing available but obviously a tour company was gobbling them up. Finally moved to the other side of the train and got two facing each other on the window. Not a pleasant experience and be advised the site crawls as people and tour companies were on there at the same time. Good luck to any of you if you are booking in prime summer season. Got my seats tonight for 22 May. Supposedly any unused inventory gets put back in the system 27 days out. Once you select your seats you can’t change them on the web site. Have to e-mail or check availability the day of departure.
