Glacier express over multiple days

We are thinking of taking the glacier express or its regional train equivalents, but we are nervous about the 8 hour journey. Has anyone traveled on this route over multiple days? If so, what are really good stops along the way. We don't mind 2-3 hour trips each day, take a break, do hikes and then repeat.

If that is what you want to, don't take the Glacier Express, just the regional trains along the same route.

which segments are you considering?

For me the original Glacier Express route from Brig (neat to have the trains stop in the middle of the street) to Chur via Furka got really boring after the first hour. It is pretty much straight mostly, and the high scenery gets very repetitive.

Now the GE goes all the way to Sankt Moritz and for me the route also covered by the Bernina Express from Chur past Sankt Moritz down into Italy is way better.

Different folk may like different things, but I like the corkscrew tunnels, the valleys, the peaks, the open spiral near the Italian border, and of course the Landwasser Viaduct straight into the tunnel with the same name.

Have a look at youtubes which follow the routes.

Andermatt certainly has enough to offer for a few days.
And if you are breaking the trip en route you could maybe include the history Furka Railway: https://www.dfb.ch/en/

So you could do the following:
- Day one travel Chur - Andermatt, with a break in Disentis. (Plan it so you can have lunch there). Visit the abbey in Disentis
- Day two: spend a day hiking/exploring around Andermatt.
- Day three: Andermatt - Brig (or Zermatt) plan it so you can take the train over the old Furka line.
