Girl Scout Our Chalet visit in Adelboden

Any advice for visiting Our Chalet in Adelboden from Muerren? My family will be staying in Muerren 4 nights at the beginning of Aug, and me and my 2 daughters are all Girl Scouts. Maybe I will get inspired to come back with their troops?

Since the website states

Open to groups, families and individuals of all ages, you can join us for a day visit, an overnight stay, or as a participant of international leadership events and seminars.

Why don't you contact them about a visit, maybe even an overnight.

Travel time averages about 2h 40m each way. Since you're going from one mountain valley to another, there will be several connections, but those go quite smoothly in Switzerland.

Thanks for the travel time info. There are not a lot of mentions of Adelboden here on the forum. Just wondered if anyone had made the trip and could recommend it. We plan to go for a day visit/tour.

Adelboden is not well followed on this forum because it is not a focus of RS and org and it does not have the transportation infrastructure that the Lauterbrunnen valley has. It can only be reached by postbus from Frutigen, as far as public transport is concerned. As such, you are bound to find fewer visitors toting their blue books. But as for as scenic beauty goes, its up there.

On this forum, I sometimes get the impression that if I ever went to Gimmelwald, it would be wall-to-wall Rikniks. It is just one of many bucolic Alpine locales, albeit relatively easy to get to.

A few years back there was a woman who was taking her Girl Scout troop to Our Chalet, and then on to Italy. I think there were 12 girls and several adults involved. Her name is Felicia and maybe you can find her posts and trip report with the Search function. (Or maybe not).

We have not been to Adelboden, but we often include the nearby village of Kandersteg in our Swiss trips. It is a center of international scouting, including Girl Guides. They have a large facility in Kandersteg and offer lodging and programs for scout groups and individuals. You might want to look into this too. But as far as I know! although they are close! there is not a direct connection between the two---you need to connect through Frutigen.

I have been to both Kandersteg and Adelboden. BOTH are perfect for Girl Scouts.

Kandersteg for the reasons Lola mentions. Huge pluses in my opinion. That being said I was in Kandersteg on my way to a hut. In addition to the scout pluses you can check out the Doldenerhuette (http://www.doldenhornhuette.ch/), a short hike, or Berghotel Schwarenbach (http://www.schwarenbach.ch/) which is a little longer hike and both are worth it for the hike, views, and night stay at the hut. If you are really up for a hike you can try the Laemerenhuette (http://www.laemmerenhuette.ch/).

Adelboden is nice, accessible via Frutigen based on geography and the fact that everywhere is cut off from everywhere else because of those darn mountains, and on the way to the Lohnerhuette (http://www.sac-wildstrubel.ch/). It is really pretty, quiet, (that covers 95% of Switzerland) good easy biking with rentals, quaint dark wooden chalets, a little (Roman-style?) church tower. It reminds me of Arbon on the Bodensee, I don't know why...Arbon is a lot more built up, but maybe the old towns are similar... Check out Lohnerhuette, a hike but bee-u-tee-ful if not ver-tee-cal. And the hike is vertical sometimes, usually via ferrate style. The town itself is nice, though. Slow (not a bad word) but with some things to do. Check out their events list for sure. I had a great time last year at an alpenhorn festival (not adelboden, but another out of the way place) with my little daughter. No other foreigners, just me and my closest 500 Swiss friends in an atmosphere of Swiss culture & food, alpenhorns, dancing, and yodeling. It. was. incredible. And I WILL be back again and probably again...

Biggest thing: Go slow, budget enough time to get from one place to the other, and don't rush. Enjoy!

And 'My Chalet' looks pretty cool. I have a little one that might just have to check that out.

Thanks for all the insight into this 'non Rick Steves' location. I will follow up with Felicia, too!

sorry I am just now seeing these messages. Hello to my dear RS friends that helped me plan a fabulous trip for my girl scout troop in 2012. I'm thrilled my trip notes and posts have been able to help several other scout leaders. I think Our chalet and Adelboden is very much worth the extra effort it takes to get there. Let me know how I can help

My sister in law and niece took a Girl Scout organized trip to Our Chalet. The following year they visited Sangam through the same Girl Scout recommend company (EF Tours). Their goal is to visit all 5 of the Girl Scout World Centres. Have you considered a tour? I don't usually recommend tours, but they loved it and they loved the Girl Scout connection.

I have a feeling the folks on here might not be familiar with the Girl Scout World Centres.

I have been to Adelboden with my daughter (also a GS). The area is beautiful but as others have commented a bit out of the way. The bus ride is a bit much for those who get car sick (take your Travelwell!) but well worth it. We spent a lovely week in Adelboden and had hoped to visit the GS chalet, however, it was in winter and there was way too much snow to make the trek for us. Looking forward to returning in the coming years.

I'm also a Girl Scout troop leader who has been to Our Chalet several times. We love Adelboden and for our custom EF Tour next year we extended our time there for an extra day. There is easy hiking in the area on groomed trails and roads. We usually get a day pass to use the area buses and gondolas at our hotel or the gondola base station. Adelboden is small but fun with a great bakery cafe and a home improvement store with a great selection of garden gnomes. I guess that tells you what my interests are. Don't miss viewing the home garden with about a thousand garden gnomes. :-)
