My friends and I ( 12 of us) are traveling to Switzerland early fall of 2023. We will be doing some sight seeing, but also hiking hut to hut. Our question is how to get our luggage to meet us at the terminus of our hut to hut hiking in Gimmelwald. We would be wanting to send the luggage from Appenzell and have it meet us in Gimmelwald. We would be leaving Appenzell by private transport 9/8/23 and arriving in Gimmelwald 9/12/23. We've looked into sending it by train, but SBB will not allow us to send the luggage as freight unless we are traveling on the train ourselves. Plus you cannot travel by train to Gimmelwald but only to Murren. Staying in Murren has been floated as a possibility, but that's not definitive. Also if the luggage were to arrive ahead of us, we'd need to make sure the luggage would have a secure place to be stored until we got there. The place we've booked in Gimmelwald was unclear about whether they would have enough room to store the luggage anyway. Thanks so much in advance for any and all suggestions!

How many days will you be hiking?
Have you looked at the convenient station to station luggage transfer service?

You can drop it at the Appenzell train station and pick it up in Mürren 2 days later for 12 CHF per bag. The question would be how long they will hold it for you in Mürren.

The station to station site says they will hold or up to 4 days at 5 CHF/day.
That does not get around the requirement to have a ticket, although it looks like if you have a Half Fare Card, that counts. So if you are doing other traveling in Switzerland while there, might be worth spending 120 CHF.
As far as getting luggage to Gimmelwald, if you can hike to Gimmelwald, you can certainly hike the short way up to Muerren to collect your luggage. Take the cable car back down to Gimmelwald if you don't want to hump the luggage down.
