Geneva to Lake Como

Hi! Visiting Switzerland for the 1st time with my husband and daughters, 10 and 16. Arriving in Geneva Aug. 1. We have 8 days to enjoy the area. Interested in a scenic train ride to see the Alps but would like to spend 3 days in Lake Como. Please advise on what scenic train to take to lake Como and what area would be a good base in lake Como that is not too expensive. Thanks.

There are regular trains to Varenna from Milan or from Switzerlsnd to the city of Como. The scenic trains are within Switzerland.

A few days in Lausanne from Geneva let's you get to Montreux, and Bern perhaps, on you way to the Bernese Alps at Lauterbrunnen.
Consider Zermatt before heading on to Italy.
