Geneva, Switzerland lodging suggestions

Hello!

I am looking for reasonable lodging in Geneva for one night before heading into the mountains. We won't have a car, so we would love to stay near the old city center of town.
Thanks!

I had a very hard time finding what I felt was reasonable in Geneva for myself and two daughters. Geneva was more expensive than Lauterbrunnen and Luzern, by far. We ended up in a hostel. If you've looked without much success and you feel like you really need to stay in that area, you could expand your search to Lausanne or Montreaux.

Switzerland is not the land of reasonable prices. You're just going to have to face the sticker shock of everything if you plan to visit Switzerland.

I've always stayed at www.cityhostel.ch which is about 3 blocks from the Cornavin train station. For a private room for 2 people it is currently 68 CHF (roughly $68) for bunk beds, or 76CHF for 2 beds.

You said you want to be in old town (you mean near John Calvin's church?), but you can easily visit there because every hostel/hotel guest gets a free bus pass for the day. Also, if you fly into Geneva, there is a free 80 min transport pass that you get from a machine near the exit of the baggage claim room.
