Geneva or Zurich?

I can only do one city which would be best? Geneva or Zurich?

French vs. German. I like Geneva more. Nice old town, pretty areas by the bridge downtown. Take photos of the Jet d'Eau, and the flower clock.

Foodwise, I like Geschnitzelties (Zurich), more than Filet de Perche (Geneva), though.

I prefer Geneva. But neither one is high on my list considering what the rest of the country has to offer.

I preferred Zurich, although both were good for an overnight stay.

I wouldn't stay in either again though when there are so many lovely places close by.

I agree with the general sentiment, as my answer was going to be "neither".

Since you haven't detailed your itinerary or interests, it's hard to make a good
suggestion, but there are lots of options.

Geneva offers better food options, but Zurich is more centrally located.

With Lucerne just one train-hour away from Zurich’s airport, I don’t get why anyone would want to overnight in Zurich. Perhaps they don’t realize how beautiful and close Lucerne is.
The same dynamic applies to choosing Geneva over Montreux.

The more time I spend in Zurich, the more I like it. I haven't spent as much time in Geneva. It seems like a very government type town.

I’d probably lean Zurich. It’s better connected for trains and day trips, and if you want a sense of the city vibe, Kay is Murmuring has a nice write-up on Zurich that shows more of the everyday side than the tourist spots.

The answer to the question "Which Swiss city is the least Swiss" would probably be Geneva. It is also the least central city, so not a convenient base.

It all depends on why it is you are coming to Switzerland.

I found I preferred the Germanic part of Switzerland

I would also lean towards Zurich. Geneva is lovely and beautiful, but very much a government centre. Yes, there are things to do, but Zurich could be a better option if you are on holiday? Also, as others have pointed out, do you want to be in the French speaking or German speaking part?
