Geneva or Lausanne?

We are in the beginning stages of planning a fall trip to Europe. We will fly in to Geneva and from there are considering taking a train to Chur and from there riding the Bernina Express to Italy. How many days would you recommend staying on Lake Geneva? Would 2 or 3 nights be plenty? Also would you recommend staying in Geneva or Lausanne?

I look forward to hearing your recommendations. Thank you.

Geneva is flat but Lausanne is hilly. Something to think about.

How about a few stops further down the line? Vevey or Montreux. You could even fit the Glacier express in your trip...

I would recommend staying in Lausanne. We stayed in the Port D'Ouchy area with gorgeous views of Lake Geneva. There is a nice promenade and the Olympic Museum there. Lausanne also has a lovely Old Town area and there is easy metro transport between the Lake and the Old Town. If you take a regional train you could see Chillon Castle in Montreux or go on to the charming town of Vevey. The Lavaux Vineyards are spectacular. There are also ferry rides on Lake Geneva. Either 2 or 3 nights would be fine depending on what you choose to see and do.
