We have a morning flight out of Geneva, so we'd like to stay near the airport at a place that will shuttle us to the airport. If this makes a difference, I'd like to see the UN when we arrive in Geneva the day before our flight. Lodging recommendations?
Just stay in the city centre. The airport hotels that will shuttle you to the airport are mostly not even in Switzerland. From the city centre you have frequent trains to the airport from very early in the morning. And you can enjoy an evening in the city, and indeed fit in a visit to the UN.
While it is a quick train to the airport from Cornavin, and there are several hotels
across the street from the station which are very nice, the Nash Airport hotels
(there are 3 of them co-located at slightly different price points) and the Ibis
on the south side of the airport have quick shuttles and also are within walking
distance if you don't have much luggage.
It will probably be a bit easier to see the UN if you stay downtown, less hassles
with luggage, easy walk/stroll, etc.
We just stayed at the Marriott Geneva which is very near the airport and has a shuttle. The staff were very helpful, the room huge, immaculate and lovely. Definitely recommend!

We will arrive in Geneva on the train with time to go see old town and the UN, so it seems best to stay by the train station. Then we can walk to the hotel, drop off our bags, and sightsee. In the morning we can hop on the train for a 7-minute ride to the airport. I'm thinking Ibis Geneve Centre Gare for the one night. Does anyone see any problems with this plan or things I need to know?
When i was there two years ago, all hotels provided one with a free daily transport pass that you get via email if staying overnight. We ended up staying nearer the airport since the hotels there were a lot cheaper than downtown and it only took 10-15 on the tram to get to the hotels. This worked well for us since some of group has early flights.
Run a check on the free transport and decide based on what is important to you
Stayed in Hilton Geneva Hotel & Conference Centre a year ago. They provided a city transport card and airport shuttle. Rooms were nice.
