Geneva for one night or head straight to Chamonix?

I will be trekking the Tour de Mont Blanc this summer. I land in Geneva in the morning and don't need to be in Chamonix until late the following day. Should I stay a night in Geneva and do some sightseeing, or head straight to Chamonix for sightseeing there?

Chamonix, definitely.

  • you can take a bus (Flixbus, BlaBlaBus, Swisstours) pretty inexpensively
  • it's only 75-90 minutes. You probably wouldn't be able to check into your hotel in Geneva for a while anyways if you arrive in the morning
  • while Geneva is a pleasant place to hang out, there is not all that much to see there.

Unless you have specific plans while in Geneva, the consensus seems to be it’s an expensive city with few stellar attractions.

Thank you both so much! I appreciate you confirming what I was thinking would be the better option. Off to Chamonix!

Definitely Chamonix - take time to get acquainted with this historic mountain town before your trek (and pick up any forgotten items) and ride the cable car up for your first views of Mt Blanc! Enjoy!!
