Hello Everyone,
I know that Geneva isn't in the Guidebook for Switzerland but I wanted to know what there was to do in Geneva and what there is around Geneva that we could do.
Hello Everyone,
I know that Geneva isn't in the Guidebook for Switzerland but I wanted to know what there was to do in Geneva and what there is around Geneva that we could do.
Others may have a lot more information about this cosmopolitan city, but I had just part of one day there (and slept there that night) a few years ago in early April, and following Rick's Guidebook, I made a trip to Gruyere by train, to visit the wonderful cheese center and the old town above it. For a fondue fan, it was a bit of a pilgrimage. I got back to Geneva somewhat late in the evening, and grabbed a cheap but delicious dinner at a middle eastern restaurant that was still open. Departing the city the next morning, I caught a glimpse of the famous Jet d'Eau, a stream of water pumped into the air out of Lake Geneva that shoots up over 400 feet high.
I left there Monday and it struck me more as a business town and transport hub than a tourist destination. That is probably why you are not finding much. But this site should give you some ideas

It's not the typical Swiss Experience that most tourists are looking for.
I lived in Geneva, so here are a few things to consider:
If you stay overnight in Geneva, you get a free day pass for buses, including water taxis
If you fly in, you get free 80 min of buses (look for the machine on your right as you exit the baggage area)
Visit the Red Cross Museum
Rent free bikes (www.geneveroule.ch )
visit the gardens and small zoo at Jardin Boutanique
Climb the bell tower at Calvin's church (maybe seeing the "flower clock" on the way)
Visit the flea market at Plainpalais on Wed. and Sat.
Visit CERN, home of the nuclear collider
There is also the Reformers Monument . I found Geneva to be lovely
Take the ferries around the lake.
