We did the famous panorama hike from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidig and then on train back to Wengen we realized it’s not covered. 4 of us paid 78CH. Was a surprise to us because we thought only lifts were not covered.
That map of validity clearly shows it as outside the "GA" area, and the note with the number 1 in a circle explains that the Swiss Travel Pass only gives a 25% discount.
Lines with reductions (50%,"1" 25%)
The full fare price is 26 CHF, so with a 25% reduction, that comes to 19.50 CHF per person.
The "GA" area (General Abbonement) is all the locations that offer free travel with the Swiss Travel Pass, which is basically inhabited Swiss towns and villages, and can include some lifts. For instance, Gimmelwald and Muerren can be reached by cable car, so they are included in the GA area. Kleine Scheidegg is not an inhabited village, so it is up the the private owner of the transport facility if they give a discount, which in this case, they do offer a 25% discount for pass holders.
If you had a Half Fare Card, you would have gotten a 50% discount.
Thanks for the reminder. It’s mentioned all the time here that in the Bernese Oberland, the Pass will cover you up to Murren and Wengen. Anything higher than that is not covered 100%.
That happens often I assume as more than once the conductor checking tickets and passes from Lauterbrunnen has reminded me the Swiss Travel pass only covers up to Wengen
Thx for the responses. Am new to the forum. So lift to murren and Gimmewald are included in Swiss Pass.
Yes, travel to Mürren and Gimmelwald by cablecar is in covered by the Swiss Pass.
The general rule is that the Swiss Pass (or one-year GA card for Swiss residents) will cover travel to villages where people live (like Wengen, Mürren, and Gimmelwald). It does not fully cover the recreational lifts or trains above the village, but generally provides a discount.
