Yes... I was told this AM by hotel manager..
The rain was off and on all day..
We hiked Lauterbrunnen valley. and later went up to Harder Kulm when we had 30 minutes of sunshine..
Then I checked the Mannilichen webcam, and it seemed clear.

I wanted to hike the Mannlichen panorama trail, and my wife wanted no part of it..
I told her I'll be right back... Went up to Mannlichen.. cloudy... some promise of breakthru clouds over the horizon.. At least not raining..
I started walking.. By the time I reach Kleine Scheidegg, it was pouring w/thunder.. yikes.. it only took me 1 hour to do the trail, because many breath taking scenery was covered in clouds.... At least I got this hike in. LOL... BTW, I was the only fool on the trail, soaking wet..

Hi Maureen, I’m in Lucerne now and heading home tomorrow. So I missed it this time, but I’ll be back. I have bigger worries right now like will these bags of paprika chips for my sister fit in my carry on and will my checked bag be over 50 pounds with the 80 pounds of chocolate I bought. :-)

Alright gene, glad you were able to fit the walk in despite the rain. Have a great rest of your trip!

Carrie, but the chocolate is so worth it!

Have a safe trip home, Carrie.. ...
BTW, I spent 8 years of my formative years in Chicago.. I still have fond memories of my college and post graduate studies in Chicago.. This was when Washington and Daley were mayors.. (that was long time ago)..
Still miss Lake Shore Drive.. LOL...

I'm headed to Zermatt tomorrow.. Looking forward to 5 lakes hike, Gornergrat and Matterhorn.. hope we get some sunshine..

Thanks gene! If you have time in Zermatt check out the gorner gorge. Talk about fabulous views! This one was a surprise highlight for me. And look to see if the black nose sheep are still up behind the train station. When you are facing the front of the station they were to the right 1.5 weeks ago. There’s a way to get up behind the denner store. I just saw bits and pieces of the Matterhorn this time and still loved my time in Zermatt. It’s such a wonderful setting. And the scent of the pine trees!

@gene off the topic, but if you are not aware, please note that Zermatt is currently experiencing flooding and there is no train service there at the moment. You may want to contact your accommodation and double check everything tomorrow morning. Most updates in German, but here is some info in English

https://www.zermatt.ch/en/Media/Liveticker-Zermatt-Matterhorn/Aktuelle-Situation-Zermatt-Matterhorn

https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/alpine-environment/swiss-village-zermatt-off-limits-due-to-flooding/

I believe next update re restoration of train service is 5am tomorrow.

Safe travels!

Thank you Maureen and hopper.. I’m crossing my fingers. BTW, I already purchased supersaver tickets to Zermatt. What happens if part of my connection gets cancelled??
Supersaver are non refundable…

Also informal word is panorama trail will be closed approximately 10 days or more.

I was feeling like I made a mistake scheduling my time in Wengen and Murren for June 10-16 because the Panorama trail was one of the top things I wanted to do, but it turns out even a week or ten days later wouldn't have helped!

Good luck David!! The weather is looking much improved. I saw blue skies on the Wengen facebook page.

Barbara, we both went a little too early this year I guess. You just never know with the weather. I was there the same time June 2022 and the weather was perfect. I think next time I’ll give Sept. another try.

Aaah, so sorry David!
When I last visited Switzerland (Sept '22), I came down with Covid, en route, and spent 10 rough days there.
At least I can speak (high) German, and I had a cozy AirBnB!

Great news on the trail reopening! Carrie, I have to ask- did all the chocolate and paprika chips make it home intact?

Hi Meg. Yes, both arrived safely. :-) My sister was very pleased with the 4 medium size bags of chips I managed to get home. I made a mistake on the chocolate though and stocked up too early in the trip and then had to lug it around with me on the trains. And try not to eat it all of course.
