“Fun” drinks for kids in Switzerland

We will be spending a week In Muerren, leaving in 10 days. Me, husband, mom-in-law, and my two young teens. We are pretty slow travelers and seem to spend lots of time hanging out at bars and restaurants, relaxing and people-watching.

My kids are adventurous eaters and like to try local food and drinks wherever we are. What would be some “interesting” Swiss drinks they could try while we are in the BO?

I believe Switzerland has white grape juice, probably more expensive than the house wine in a restaurant, but presumably sold in some supermarkets.

The most popular Swiss drink is probably Rivella, which you can get in most restaurant and supermarkets. Then, there's Flauder, a soft drink made of elderflower or Pepita made of grapefruit juice. Switzerland also produces its own "Sprite" called "Elmer Citro" or "Sinalco" which is similar to Fanta. You could also just go into a Migros supermarket, they have their own brands and see what floats your boat.
Then there's the hot chocolate made with Caotina or Ovomaltine chocolate powder which are Swiss brands.

Definitely try Rivella! It's a soft drink with a taste that is unique because it is made out of milk sugars. Comes in original (start with that) and also diet and other flavors (depending on what the store stocks).

As an 8 year old our granddaughter loved hearing the list of different juices the restaurant had and her decision was usually “can you mix x and y”. She loved the variety as she’s not a soft drink person.

Thank you for all the great ideas! Sounds like we'll have some fun in the Coop as well as restaurants. Definitely will try some Rivella. And I don't think they've ever tried anything with elderflower, so that will be another flavor to look for.

Thanks much!

Another vote for Rivella. Red and blue are different.

We are back from our trip, and I can report that the kids didn’t love Rivella (plain old original formula), but did drink tons of fruit juices from the Coop in Muerren. They liked trying mixes that we don’t have at home.

I, on the other hand, thought Rivella was great. I have a theory that it would make a great mixer for an adult rum beverage, but I didn’t get a chance to try it out. I’ve put it on my list for the trip to Switzerland!
