Switzerland is my favorite country to travel to. I've found the multi-cultural landscape to be fascinating, I think the Berner Overland is great, but I feel like the French-speaking part of CH is a bit neglected. Other than Geneve, Lausanne, Montreux, Merton, and Sion, what are some small interesting destinations that are worth looking into? I hate the term "hidden gems" but I think there must be some scenic locations worth more attention.
The Lavaux vineyards are breathtaking!
I made a pilgrimage to Audrey Hepburn's grave, in the small village of Tolochenaz (near Lausanne). If you're interested, I can post directions (it's easy to miss as the graveyard is so small).
On further research, I learned that lots of celebrities are buried in the region, from Charlie Chaplin to Coco Chanel to Richard Burton to James Mason. People go to Pere Lachaise in Paris and Highgate Cemetery in London, so why not visit some cemeteries in French Switzerland? If you're interested, here's a list; Geneva is in Canton Geneva, and Lausanne, Vevey, and Montreux are in Canton Vaud: https://www.dicconbewes.com/2010/09/15/dead-famous-in-switzerland/
I like Yverdon-les-Bains , Neuchâtel and the Jura (Creux du Van, Etang de la gruère and St-Ursanne).
Thanks for the ideas!
Give Gruyeres a go. It's a fun place and beautiful place.
