Freiburg to Murren to Florence

Hello! We are travelling from Freiburg, Germany to Murren later this month. We will be in Murren for 3 nights and then travelling to Florence. While in Murren, we plan to hike and take the lift to the top of the Schiltorn and/or Jungfraujoch. I would appreciate some advice on the following:
1. Should I buy the train tickets in advance (from home) from Murren to Florence? Some legs of the route indicate high occupancy.
2. I estimated the cost per train per person from Murren to Florence to be 131.00 euro per person. Is that right or did I mess that up? I used www.sbb.ch to search.
3. If you had to choose one of the two mountains to visit, which one would you choose?
4. Would we benefit by buying a pass and it so, which one?

Many thanks in advance!
Cathy

Hands down, the Schilthorn. The trip up is a relatively short but scenic cable car ride. The trip up to Jungfraujoch is an expensive 1 1/2 hour train ride in a tunnel through a mountain. Not to mention the time it takes to get there from Mürren. Once you are at the top of course its incredible if the weather cooperates, but Schilthorn is too.

I would buy your tickets from Muerren to Firenze in advance as you will probably benefit from early-purchase discounts.

Swiss passes confuse the heck out of me, but I can tell you that either the Jungfrau Region Pass or Berner-Oberland Pass (each explained at this site would be well worth your while. When you get to Interlaken, go to the TI and ask for advice on passes. They are applicable starting with the train from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen, so it's good to buy them before using that train. I like to go to the TI and tell them what I plan to do -- which towns I plan to go to, which hikes, etc. -- and let them tell me what might work best for me. The passes are expensive but the lifts paid one-at-a-time are even more expensive. Last time we bought passes I calculated that we used 158% of the face value of the pass.

Thank-you Laurel and Stan! This is very helpful information. We are looking into the Schiltornbahn Holiday Pass which gives us access to most of the things we want to do. Its 120 CHF. Just have to find out where to buy it. We will also buy our Murren to Firenze train tickets in advance. I appreciate your advice very much!
