My husband and I are taking a 10 day hiking trip tour in Switzerland (Lucerne, Pilatus, Interlaken, Grindelwald, Murren, Kandersteg, ending in Montreux) from Sept. 1-10 We will have 4 free days before we need to be in Rome for Rick's Southern Italy tour. I am looking for ideas for the 4 days. We thought about the Lake Geneva area (Lausanne, Vevey, Chateau de Chillon, Gruyeres) and possibly the Chocolate Train. I also thought of Chamonix in France. We have traveled very little in Switzerland or France, but quite a bit in central and northern Italy. We are active, like to hike and sightsee. Not much for shopping. We do not want to rent a car, preferring trains or buses. Flying into Rome would be fine. Suggestions? Thanks!
Did you look at a map of the Switzerland-France border? Off the top of my head you'd go down to Grenoble
or down and over to Lyon in France, or choose a base between Grenoble and Geneva.
I have researched Lake Geneva and the Lusanne area and have that on my list with Basel and the Oberland Region.
I'd also look at easiest connection for you to make to get to Rome. Are you arriving for Day 1 of your RS tour?
If so your day 4 of the 4 free days will be all devoted to getting to Rome.
Thanks Diane. I have allowed for a day to arrive in Rome for our tour. So, we have 4 free days.
