My mom, my 9 month old son, and I are going to Zurich for my job for three days during the second week of December. We plan to stay for four more days to see the country, but I can't decide how to spend the time! Mountains above Interlaken a must, Basel Christmas markets and what? How would you recommend scheduling it out?? Thanks!
I don't think you need to go all the way to Basel for Christmas Markets. Zurich itself has several good ones and others are in surrounding towns like Winterthur and Rapperswil.

It will be early ski season in the Berner Oberland. That is not necessarily a bad thing. Many of the lifts will be running and as it is not prime time, lodging will be at least reasonable (by Swiss standards).
The Lauterbrunnen Valley and surrounding towns make a great 3 or 4 night stay. We spent 4 nights there at New Year's once, and the winter landscape and hiking were fabulous. There may not be snow in the valley, but there will be in Muerren and Wengen. The network of trains and lifts is great fun, even if you do not hike.
