Fly in to Zurich and out of Geneva, other way around, or in/out of Zurich?

If we plan to visit Lucerne, Murren and Montreux, would it be better for us to fly in to Zurich and out of Geneva, the other way around, or in and out of Zurich? We are planning a 10 day trip, from the US.

Yes it would. But it could happen that you will find a roundtrip significantly cheaper than an open jaw.

We have done both. For Geneva, we were coming from Gstaad and spent our last night in the village of Morges on the lake. But if you are in Montreux, you are only 1 hour 10 minutes from the Geneva airport, on a direct train (no changes).

If it is significantly less expensive to fly Roundtrip through Zurich (which was not, in our case), the train back to Zurich airport from Montreux is 3 hours on a train with 1 change. Probably not something you would want to do the same day of your flight, unless it is an afternoon flight. So if this would mean spending a night in Zurich or closeby, you have to consider that you will lose a night from Montreux. Plus there will be additional travel cost for the longer journey, unless you are using a Swiss Pass.

Luzern is nearer Zürich airport, Montreux nearer Geneva airport and Mürren is equidistant.
If you are visiting in the order Luzern, Mürren then Montreux then into Zürich airport and out of Geneva is the least time consuming.

I would base my decision on the flights available from your home location (convenient times and prices). The time difference getting to either Swiss airport is not large.
