We are traveling to Switzerland to hike for five weeks this summer. I notice that the longest rail travel pass is for 15 days. Are there other options for longer passes or do you need to buy two consecutive passes to cover the dates we will be traveling/hiking? We enjoy not having to plan too much before we arrive, and having totally flexibility on where we go and when.
The one month Half fare card could work if you time it right. Passes are super expensive and really only pay off if you are travelling from one end of Switzerlasnd to the other constantly. If you are hiking, you only need an occasional mountain lift, plus a few train or postbus trips to change locales.
Once upon a time, there was a one-month consecutive version of the Swiss Travel Pass, but no longer. If you can estimate a certain number of travel days to use on a flexipass, then that option stretches over a month, starting on a date that you indicate at purchase (such as May 15 - June 14). If you only buy a few days of full coverage, then you'd want to get the version with Half-Fare Card included for $75 more. Or, a plain Half-Fare Card is fully flexible, just not fully pre-paid travel.
