First Trip to Switzerland (Luzern, Bern, Berner Oberland, Zermatt)

Hi,

Our family has created a loose itinerary for a 15-day trip this October. Would love to have feedback from more seasoned travelers if this is feasible and/or any additional comments on what we should/shouldn't do. We will be traveling with an infant and plan on using public transit to get around. We dedicated most of the time to Berner Oberland and any suggestions for a town to look at for hotel / airbnb would also be appreciated!

I would skip the first day in Zurich and go straight to Luzern from Zurich airport. It is only about 1 hour by train. i would also skip going to Bern but take the Luzern-Interlaken Express to the Berner Oberland. It is a very scenic train ride over the Bruenig Pass. You could take a day trip to Bern from the Berner Oberland if you want. Maybe a good trip for a bad weather day.

Bern is easy as a day trip from either the Bernese Oberland or Luzern, so I would just keep that as a plan B for a bad weather day. Because no travel plan survives contact with the Swiss Weather.

Regarding the flight to Amsterdam: Look also at flights from Basel and Zurich. All three airports are similar travel time away from Zermatt. If your flight is in the afternoon there is usually no need to spend the night near the airport.
