We have a river cruise on late Sept ending in Zurich. Would like to stay in Switzerland a few extra days. Would like to see Luzerne too. And leave via Zurich after. Need advice on where to stay and what to see. Any advice?

Lucerne is a great spot for a few days. It's very easy to get to by train from Zurich.

Lucerne definitely fits the bill. Very easy to get to from Zurich and back to the airport. Easy to get to some nearby mountains. Mt Rigi and Mt Pilatus. I stayed at hotel des Alpes. Room had a nice view of the bridge and lake.
