Feedback please for Mid September Switzerland Itinerary

We will be traveling to Switzerland for the first time in Mid September. I wanted to run our itinerary by all the Forum readers to be sure I have understood all the details and hopefully gain more from your feedback. Our itinerary is set and is as follows;

9/12 Fly into Zurich, spend the night, see Old Zurich next morning. Lunch

9/13 take the train to Luzern. Mt. Pilatus only plan at the moment while there. Have seen that there is a Gold and Silver tour for Mt. Pilatus. If weather is good planning on Gold tour.

9/16 Train to Wengen Will be here through 9/19 Ride all the Cable Cars and hit the highlights

9/19 Train to Zurich to pick up rental car, drive to Lake Como

9/19-9/26 Lake Como. Menaggio area apartment (Aquaseria) Will use the ferry to hit Varenna, Belaggio etc. Day trip to Milan.

From all the info on this site I have looked at rail fares etc. and believe the Half Fare card and the Berner Oberland Pass are the best option to cover transportation.

It looks that the BOP cover trains in Lucerne but not the ships, buses. I also read on this forum that if you have a Hotel Reservation in Luzern that you can ride the bus for free to get to the hotel.

Do know that the BOP does not cover JungFraujoch, Schiltzhorn, Mt. Pilatus but with these 2 passes we will get a discount. Am reading that it is best to head up to altitude early in the day as the weather changes. Any other input/information that can help with this itinerary is greatly appreciated. We have all our hotel reservations set.

Thank you all.

You might consider taking a train thru Switzerland and pick up a car in Italy. We did the Bernina Express. It was gorgeous and a low stress day. We took it to Tirano and then took another train to Varenna. Does your trip end in Italy? If that's the case, you could be charged quite a drop fee.
