February Switzerland itinerary help

I’m thinking about going to Switzerland at the end of this month. Originally I planned on flying in to Zurich staying there a couple of days, taking a train to Lucerne and staying there a couple days, then to Lugano for a couple days. Then flying home from Milan. Now I’m thinking about arriving in Zurich on Thursday staying there for the night. Friday go to Appenzell. Sunday morning go to Lucerne, Tuesday morning go to Lugano, Thursday go to Milan. Friday go to Brussels and Saturday or Sunday fly home from Brussels.

Should I cut out one of the cities and add another one? What do you think?

Go with the original plan (but skip Zurich and go straight to Luzern) instead of a bunch of 1 night stays; skip Brussels not unless you are going there to buy some rare beer to bring back

Second plan is too much travelling and too little staying. Also, what are you planning to do?

Skip Zürich (meh) and Brussels (seems like an odd addition) unless you have concrete things you want to do there. Appenzell, Lucerne, Lugano sounds like a nice trio of stops. If you insist on Brussels I'd drop Appenzell.

Appenzell also puts St. Gallen closeby. Lucerne has plenty of sights. Lugano also opens up Locarno, Ascona, Brisago Islands (reopens in March, damn), Bellinzona and Como.

Actually, depending on your priorities you might want to drop Appenzell too and just do Lucerne and Lugano, then fly home via Milano.

You could even shift your stay from Lugano to Locarno and fly back through Zürich.
