Favorite time to visit Murren

I know this is a mixed bag and weather is unpredictable. When is everyone’s favorite time to visit Murren? Looking at a trip next summer for hiking. Trying to get the best chance for good weather while not being overcrowded

Seems like early July could be a little less crowded but still risk trails being closed.
Maybe late August after schools go back?
September seems like a great month, but I’d like to seem some waterfalls and green colors

We were there for 5 nights in late June and had some rain on 5 of 6 days. So you can never know what the weather will be. Early July will be PEAK season. Many trails didn’t even open until mid-June, so July is really the start of the hiking season. The flowers were gorgeous when we went. It could get very warm in late August. Know that mist places don’t have ac, because it isn’t often needed. But it might be in August.

It's packed all year now, so there is no getting away from the crowds, but especially July and August - it's a madhouse then. It used to die down a slight bit in late August, but now not until beginning of September. For best weather chances, July/August. For still good weather, September. You'll get greenery and waterfalls even in early-mid September.

You never need AC in Murren, not even in August. It's really no hotter consistently in August than in July and it always cools down in the evenings.

Thank you guys!
Seems like everywhere is busy. Maybe just take a trip and deal with the crowds. We have young children so are used to being up early.
Mostly interested in hiking, although a few touristy things like the mountain carts down grindelwald first do look pretty fun haha

I’ve been twice in early/mid June (2022 and 2024) and once in Sept. (2021). I prefer June as the crowds are fewer and I love the wildflowers that time of year. But, last June my favorite trail (männlichen to kleine Scheidegg) wasn’t open yet.

Are you staying only in Murren? If so, I would shoot for the last week of June.

You can see waterfalls and green colors in Sept. There also seems to be more cows out in Sept.

Probably base in Murren, maybe Grindelwald or Wengen. There’s things I want to see all over. Only things outside the immediate area on my radar would be a day trip to Lake Oeschinensee and a night in Lucerne before we fly home

We were in Murren last August four nights. Certainly during the day the crowds were memorable, but they did thin out enormously about 4 PM when the bus people left. As we did various hikes and day trips we were not in Murren itself during the busiest time of the day. We found dinners (reserve) to be memorable and peaceful in the evening. The train from Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg was crowded for sure, entire cars were reserved for tour groups. Go early and beat the crowds, this helps greatly. We found it to be manageable however.

Zermatt was much the same. Edit to note that the weather was almost perfect, a bit of rain in Zermatt one evening but the the Matterhorn was clear both days we were there. Lucky we were.

I've only been in late June and it is excellent. Fewer crowds for sure, and the only trail that was still snow-bound was at the very top of the Schilthorn. We went just one station down (to Birg) and hiked down from there snow-free.

We’ve been to Murren several times and keep dreaming about renting a house or several rooms to take the extended family. Such an idyllic setting with the most breath-taking views… There was a lot of construction going on when we were there a few years ago and just wondering how much has changed. Can any recent visitors report?

Can any recent visitors report?

May I suggest you start your own post with your question, rather than clogging up this OP's thread?

The train station is finished, as is the Mürren Place hotel. The new funifor from Stechelberg to Mürren to Birg to Schilthorn is now running but they’re till working on demolishing the old station, outfitting the new one and the additional funifor up to Schilthorn won’t be finished until end of 2026 (they will run 2 instead of 1) so there is still works on that end of town.

In general there is always going to be construction in popular areas, so the big wave of the last few years has calmed down, but I’m sure we’ll see new things start at any moment :)
