Fastest way to get from Zug, Switzerland to Bellagio, Italy via train

Traveling from to Switzerland from the US in August. Planning a trip from Zug to Bellagio, Italy for a couple of days. Any advice on the fastest way to get there by train? It looks like I can do a few things, i.e., train to Milan, then train or bus to Como, then another train or bus to Bellagio. I read so many different things! I wouldn't mind taking the more scenic route, but I think I will opt for the fastest as we will only be going for a couple of days. Also, info on how it will work with a Swiss Pass since part of the trip is outside of Switzerland.

Thanks so much for any help anyone can offer!!

the Swiss Rail website (sbb.ch/en) will automatically determine the fastest route. All you have to do is put in the beginning and ending stations. Look a the column that shows time of trip.

As Stan says, the computer can do all the work for you.

But in the meantime - Zug (one of my fav towns in Switzerland) train to Arth Goldeau, change to the train to Milan. In Milan take the TreNord train to Varenna-Esino on the east shore of Lake Como. Walk the short distance down the hill to the dock and take a ferry over to Bellagio.

Or. Same towards Milan. Your train may stop at Como. A fair distance to the lake on foot, and then either a stopping ferry to Bellagio or the high speed hydrofoil - very fast, poor visibility.

Some of the trains from Zug, every couple of hours, go straight through to Milan, so no change required before there.

Some change at Lugano, some change at both Arth Goldeau and Lugano.

You are lucky to be going from a nice part of the world to another nice part of the world. Wish I was.

Looking at a random date in August (Aug 14) there is a direct EC train at 7:34 to Como San Giovanni station arriving at 10:05. Swiss Travel Pass will cover most of that as it is just a few km over the border. At Como San Giovanni, take the the C30 bus at 10:50, getting you to Bellagio by noon.

As noted already, you can take a train to Como, Italy --it's just a few minutes past the border. If you don't want to take the bus, you also have the option of taking a ferry from Como to Bellagio. So there's option 3.
