We booked 3 nights at the Fassbind hotel in Lausanne (Agora Swiss Night), not anticipating their very strict policy prohibiting any outside food and drink in one’s room. If you stayed there, would you comment on your experience with this policy? Thank you.
Where did you find that policy.? I couldn't find it on their website. Seems strange when they have a minibar and coffee/tea making equipment in each room.
I'm thinking the same as Cjean. There's no mention on their website of this policy, or in any of the many reviews I browsed for this property. This sort of policy is so unusual for a hotel that I wonder if you misread text sent with your booking or it was an incorrect translation.
Could you provide the policy text (copy/paste) here so we can see what you're referencing?
I didn’t see it either until I googled it. Kind of strange that booking.com lists all the hotel’s other policies but not that one. We generally don’t bring food up to our room other than maybe chocolate we might pick up so I wouldn’t be bothered by this. Obviously, they’ve had problems. Lausanne does have places to sit lakeside so maybe that’s an option.
“No Outside Food/Drinks: It is officially forbidden to bring or store outside food and drinks in guest rooms.Disabled Mini-Fridges: The in-room minibars/fridges are typically turned off. Guests are explicitly instructed not to store outside food in them (fridges are only to be switched on for medical storage).” Fissbind.com
Here is the text copied from the Angora Swiss Night Hotel by Fassbind’s website:
“The fridge of your room is off
Food and drink may be purchased at the front desk
You can switch on your fridge to store medicine
It is forbidden to keep Food or Drink in your room and in your fridge.”
What is perplexing to me is that Rick recommends several Fassbind hotels in Switzerland. We all know how Rick supports procuring meals from groceries, bakeries, etc. Hmmm….
Wow, Sylvenia, I couldn't find that at all on their site nor on the booking.com site.
Nope, a policy that restrictive would make booking the property a no-go for us. We travel with some of our own wine and fave non-alcoholic beverages + snacks. The implication that they'd go poking around our room for forbidden consumables would be overly intrusive and uncomfortable.
The Hotel we stayed in Rome (Ocean-something, near Termini station) had that policy as well. Surprised me. I had bought a bottle of wine at the Agritouristmo we had stopped at before Rome and I asked for a Wine glass to drink it, from the housekeeper. No problem. I also left the remains of the corner Pizza place in the trash can, also no problem. I finally put it down to "if I make a mess they have something to come after me with". Don't know.
The policy is under Details>Minibar--at least for the Geneva location--for posters who can't find it on their site(s). They offer in-room breakfast so a form of food's allowed.
Gosh, that policy would be a hard no from me, I would cancel. We quite often have snacks in our room in the evening if we’ve had a big lunch out. And also carry a range of gluten free products in our luggage. Definitely sounds like a hotel chain to be avoided and hopefully the idea doesn’t spread to other hotels.
