Europe Trip

Hello,

I am planning a 30th wedding anniversary trip. I am thinking of starting in Amsterdam, going through Switzerland and/or Germany and ending in Croatia. Any thoughts or advice on that itinerary? Is that too spread apart? What would be the best places to see?

We were on a Viking Danube River cruise a few weeks ago and were not able to visit Nuremberg due to the river level. It was one the main place I most wanted to see which is the reason I'd love to add it to this trip. We have at least 14 days (possibly longer) to travel.

I would deeply appreciate any help!

Have a great evening.

Two weeks is not enough for your wish list. Either slim down your list or add another week or so.
Hard to answer without knowing your interests, group size, age, mobility issues, time of year, mode of transport, and budget.
It's easier to answer question when there are more specifics.
Happy researching!

A trip from Amsterdam into Germany, down the Rhine and to Nuremberg or elsewhere in Bavaria is certainly a classic and would easily fill two weeks, or it could be a bit more rushed and include a jaunt into Switzerland. I don’t think you have enough time for Croatia as well, as it’s far from Germany and quite spread out; although you could fly from Munich to Dubrovnik for a few days and at least see Croatia’s most famous place if you really wanted to include it, instead of Switzerland for example — such as, Amsterdam 3 days, Rhine, Nuremberg to Munich 7 days, Dubrovnik 3 days, fly home from there. Although I would personally save Croatia for a separate longer trip.

Not an impossible ask!

Amsterdam - Nuremberg is possible in one day but would be paced better with one night in the middle, somewhere on the Rhine like Koblenz or the smaller places south of there (but Koblenz would be easier for trains).

from Nuremberg, Switzerland doesn't really fit with Croatia unless you add in flights (and hours wasted at airports). But if it's mountains you want to see the Bavarian Alps do fit - and are better value. Research "Chiemgauer Alps" or "Berchtesgadenland".

There is a daily train from Munich to Zagreb at 10:16, this also picks up at a couple of the german stations useful for the above alpine regions and then at Salzburg (12:07) before passing through austrian and slovenian mountains eventually arriving Zagreb at 19:20
