Engadine Valley trip

We have never been to the engadine valley and are planning our trip in June of 2017. I am hoping some of you who have been can give me some of your experiences and destinations that you wouldn't miss. We are looking especially for some nice easy hiking trails, Vistas, lakes places to picnic, train rides ....you know Switzerland stuff. Not really interested in large cities or shopping in St. Moritz. Pontresina? Zernez? Silvaplana? thanks so much. any point of interest or places to avoid are greatly appreciated

None of those are big cities, and St Moritz is worth visiting even if you don't want to shop. You can take the local train down the Inn Valley and see some really tiny villages, and there are walking trails along the river, and the lake next to St Moritz. You can easily walk from Samedan to St Moritz, for example. A very quiet, pleasant area, especially if weather cooperates. I don't recall many "sights" to check out.

Thanks Stan that sounds like exactly the kind of walk we are looking for. Would you recommend a day trip on the Bernini express to tirano and then back the same day?

Jay, I've not done the Bernina Express route, but I would suggest looking at the weather on the day you propose to go, to decides if its worth it. I have done the Glacier Express from there, and that was wonderful, but I'm not a fan of day trips, or train rides for the sake of train rides. Depends on your next destination.

One thing that might interest you in the Engadine area, is the presence of Romansch language, especially in the smaller towns. You'll see signs with that in additions to German/French/Italian.
