End of April in Switzerland

We are considering extending our time in Europe after a Danube cruise. Has anyone had experience in Switzerland the last week of April? I know the scenery will be gorgeous and we don’t mind some cold, but I wonder if we would be able to do a little hiking?

Low elevation trails may be open but no higher level ones will be cleared. In the mountain towns it is common to get snow in April and even through mid-May. But spots of great spring weather are also quite possible, so it's a gamble either way.
