Do any of the Swiss railways offer discounts for senior cirizens. I am planning to travel on the Gotthard Panoramic Express, the Glacier Panoramic Express and on the Bernina Panoramic Express but cannot see any discounts for seat reservations. Will use a Half day pass and Saver cards for the actual railfares, but again cannot see any discounted fares offered. Is it possible to get elderly discounts on point to point fares ?
No such senior discounts exist in Switzerland. Seat reservations are always the same price, even if you are traveling on a pass, whether you are 2 or 102.
You will be using a Half Fare Card, and Saver Day Passes? Great. But get the terminology right :-)
In Switzerland seniors are by far the richest demographic, as such senior discounts are uncommon. And seat reservations are indeed the same price for everyone.
But you do not have to travel on the Gotthard Panorama Express. You can just take the Treno Gottardo, which follows the same route, and which does not require reservations.
to elaborate on the previous -
there are two reasons for using the panoramic cars - the fancy service and the cachet, and the views.
Trains also have regular cars and there are also local trains with big windows and no fancy service, no reservation fee, no reservations (not needed usually) and they stop at exactly the same places and have exactly the same scenery. And better chance for glare free photos.
Both are perfectly correct answers, only you can know which is more important to you....
sorry about the no discounts - I would have liked that too but ho hum
