Eiger Express option from Grindelwald to Jungfrau

Today we had the pleasure of riding the new Eiger Express from Grindelwald Terminal to Eigergletscher. This gondola cuts the time to get to the Jungfraujoch by 47 minutes. Instead of the little train to Kleine Scheidegg where one changes to the Jungfrau Railway, you can now change to the Jungfrau train at Eigergletscher or use it as a starting point for various hikes. We choose not to hike today, just wanted to see the new cable way. The gondolas are large with seating for maybe 24 people. Our car was half full on the way up and only the two of us descending.

The cableway opened in December 2020 after an 8 year period of planning and constructions. Nice windows, no scratches from skis as this is NOT a ski lift. Incredible views as it soars above Kleine Scheidegg and high over the Grindelwald Valley at the foot of the Eiger. At Grindelwald Terminal (served by the Berner Oberland Bahn) you can also take the new lift to Männlichen. Will do so later this month.

Both lifts are included in the Berner Oberland Regional Pass.

Put it on you list for “next time.”

Might have been, Nigel. We just stayed in the gondola for the round trip. Next time we’ll go a little later when the sun is already on Eigergletscher. We have taken the Jungfraujoch train once a few years ago. No need to do that twice.
