I'm in Switzerland and we are experiencing a lot of rain. I had set aside the day for Ebenalp but the forecast doesn't look good. Anyone gone there in the rain? I realize that the experience will not be as rewarding but wondering if I is still possible or slightly worth it or whether we should just look at other options for the day. FYI Haus Lydia has given us a free card for the cable car so cost is not a deterrent and we have a Swiss Travel card so we could hop on the train and visit somewhere else in the area. Perhaps St. Gallen?
I had the same problem when I was there in June a few years ago. It rained incessantly for much of my visit, so not ideal travel weather. Fortunately there was a local festival taking place at the time, so there was still lots to see. The locals told me that there could be snow at Ebenalp so I decided not to risk it. Oh well, that provides an excuse to return.
You could certainly take a day trip to St. Gallen or other nearby locations, or just pack an umbrella and visit Ebenalp despite the rain.
If you have transportation included, why not have a ride up and see how you like it? What do you have to lose? Cable cars are always fun unless the wind is high so go for the ride and if you like what you see when up there stay for a while.....
We were there last week and walked down to Aescher in light rain. Dress for it. It's not that far and totally worth it. The Rosti is the best, Go for and bring hiking sticks. We borrowed some at the cable car station.
