We will be traveling from Geneva to Amstersdam in early November. We found a very cheap flight on Easy Jet (direct) and even after buying seats and luggage fees, the price is $126 for two. Any reasons not to give it a try?
No reason at all, just be sure to read all the fine print. I've taken quite a few budget carriers over the years and they can be a good, inexpensive way to travel. The flights tend to be quite crowded and they nickel and dime you for everything, but for a short flight, it's fine.
Easy jet is a common airline to use when you live in Europe. It is a budget airline, so they do charge for designated seating, checked bags. You can purchase EasyJet Plus, which gives you priority boarding, designated seating and a free checked bag.
This can be worthwhile if you are a frequent flyer.
Have flown them before on another route and will not hesitate to fly them again. Paying a little extra to get priority boarding and an extra carry on bag was well worth it. The price itself sounds great.
julie,
Give them a try, I think you'll be pleased with the service. easyJet is my preferred budget airline in Europe, and I try to fly with them whenever possible (including this year). I few thoughts....
- Don't wait too long to book tickets as the prices may increase as the flight fills.
- I find that paying for things like Speedy Boarding and advance seat selection makes the budget experience so much nicer.
- Be sure to read the "fine print" especially regarding luggage rules. They typically allow ONE carry-on per passenger, however if you buy some of the extras they will allow a second carry-on/personal item.
- Speedy Boarding and advance seat selection allow you to board and get your luggage into the overhead bins before the "herd" arrives.
- The queue at the luggage drop is shorter and quicker for those who pay for Speedy Boarding.
- If you think the weight of your checked luggage may exceed the limit, it will be cheaper to pay for the next weight tier at the time of booking rather than at the airport.
- You can print your boarding pass up to a month prior to the flight. If you get it printed at the airport, there will be a charge.
Thanks everyone for the information. I did book the tickets and paid for seats & luggage. The price was $126 for two of us compared to $430 for the train. Interesting about printing the boarding passes 30 days ahead of the flight.
