We are looking to check out some of the adventure activities in Grindelwald first in early May. Can someone explain the easiest route and connection information to get there? Will the swiss travel pass cover the entire route? Also any suggestions for lunch and other activities in grindelwald area are appreciated.
Take the train from Interlaken Ost to Grindelwald, then a bus to Grindelwald Firstbahn. That much is covered by the Swiss Travel Pass. The cost of a round trip ticket to First with the Swiss Travel Pass is 36 CHF during high season.
From Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald see www.sbb.ch, which has the times for any and all public transport in Switzerland.
With the STP the route is covered till Grindelwald, and you get 50% off on the First cablecar.
From Lauterbrunnen you take the train toward Interlaken Ost but you get off at Zweilütschinen (the first stop) to change to the train going to Grindelwald. Make sure you board the correct section of the train. This stop is a “Y” junction, with one track going up the valley to Grindelwald and the other track going to Lauterbrunnen. The trains coming from Interlaken Ost split at Zweilütschinen, with one half going to Lauterbrunnen and the other half going to Grindelwald. I believe it is the back half that goes to Grindelwald but confirm that with signs along the tracks.
Our favorite place for lunch in Grindelwald is the terrace restaurant at Bort, a mid-station on the First gondola. With tickets to the top, you can get off at Bort for lunch and re-board to go to the top afterwards. Or stop there on the way down if you want to start at the top for the hike to Bachalpsee or the First Flyer. If you are doing the Trottibikes, you start at Bort for the ride down to Grindelwald.

Here is a look at the menu if you are curious. It is pretty typical of a Swiss mountain restaurant menu.
