I am in the early stages of a ten, possibly 12, day trip for two mid to late 50s active adults in late May/early June. Broadly planning, I have five nights in Wengen, to two three nights in Lucerne, and then we are looking for recommendations for a third option that we can use as a base for day trips. I've done some guide book reading and we are considering either Bern or Montreaux, but are open to suggestions. We enjoy hiking, but also enjoy history and exploring urban areas and visiting villages in the countryside. Thanks!
If you’re flying in & out of Zurich, then end in Luzern which is very convenient to the airport. Bern can be visited as a day trip from Luzern, so Montreux would be a better choice for a base to see a unique part of Switzerland with very strong French influence.
I’d suggest starting in Montreux to get over Jetlag and explore along the lake and vineyards. Then take the Golden Pass Express to Wengen for 5 nights once you’re rested and ready for nature exploration and finally end in Luzern for a mix of mountain, lake & city exploration with an optional day trip to Bern.
3 nights Montreux > 5 nights Wengen > 3 nights Luzern
Thank you! Montreux was on our shortlist for that very reason.
