Is anyone familiar with driving these two routes? We will have a car to explore the Burgundy wine country and the train routes are not very direct. The cost is actually less to drive as our stop in Lucerne is short and the travel time involved is either shorter or fairly comparable. However, if either of these two routes represent particularly difficult driving conditions, I will go with the trains. We would plan to drop the car off at the Munich airport to avoid driving anywhere near the city and taxi to our hotel.
Many thanks in advance!!
Anne
Its pretty much all "interstate" type highways all the way. You will need to pickup a Swiss vignette for the Swiss highways, and live with the international drop charges from the rental car company. As a compromise, consider dropping the car at Basel airport (which is actually in France), take the short bus ride to Basel SBB station, then a direct train to Luzern. Luzern to Munich has a single change at Zurich Hbf.
Thanks Sam! That is great advice...I will do just that. Have a great day!
We drove Beaune to Interlaken last fall and it was pretty straight forward. I don't think you'd have any problems.
