My husband and I will be in Switzerland in December. We would like to travel the Glacier Express route on local trains (not the high-end one). It doesn't matter to us if we travel east to west or visa-versa, but will stay overnight somewhere along the way to break up the trip. We'd really appreciate advice from anyone that's done this trip: where to stay, which direction is best, and info about changing trains along the route. (It looks like we change trains in Brig, Andermatt and Chur?) Thanks!

I believe you also change trains in Disentis-Muster. I'd stay overnight in Andermatt. Direction is immaterial, whatever works for the rest of your itinerary.

For all train matters, consult the Man in Seat 61. It's a fairly long ride, I would consider overnighting in Disantis.
