Do you recommend visiting Bern and Lusanne?

We are flying into Zurich early August and thought we would spend one night in Zurich and leave the next day for Bern and then two days in Lausanne before we start tour starting in Lucerne. We have four free days before our town starts. The tour will visit Lucerne, Innsbruck, St. Moritz, Munich and the Engadine Valley. Do you recommend Bern or Lausanne? We will be traveling by train before the tour starts.
Thank you

Bern and Lausanne are nice cities, but if I had four free days I’d head to the mountains in the Berner Oberland. It doesn’t sound like that area is included in your tour. Lauterbrunnen, Mürren or Wengen would make a good base for that area. You could stop in Bern for a few hours on your way there from Zürich. It’s easy to get to Lucerne from the Berner Oberland by train.

Yes, spend the time in the Berner Oberland.
Don't waste a night in Zürich, go directly to the Berner Oberland. Bern is worth visiting and can be done as a day trip from there.
You can easily do this all by train, and the rail line from the Berner Oberland to Luzern, over the Brünig Pass, is scenic.

"The tour will visit Lucerne, Innsbruck, St. Moritz, Munich and the Engadine Valley." - but hopefully not in that order.

I agree 100% with Kathy and Chris. The Berner Oberland area is spectacular. If your tour doesn’t go there, that’s where I’d want to spend my extra time. Head for the mountains!

If you’re set on Lausanne or Bern, I’d choose Lausanne. Lovely lake town.

Head directly you the alps (Berner Oberland) to one of the car free villages of Wengen or Murren. There’s no doubt in my mind.
