Going to Switzerland for 25 days. With all that water are there mosquitoes? I haven’t read anything about bugs. Thanks in advance
The only bugs I have seen in Switzerland are bees and that was in June with all the wildflowers. So, I would not take any bug repellent.
Wait, I take that back. There were little gnat like bugs near the river in Lucerne.
I don’t think mosquitoes are much of a problem in areas most travelers visit in Switzerland. And, anyway, they will have repellant available in Switzerland should you need it. That’s probably a better plan than risking having bug repellant leak at altitude or inadvertently get spilled all over your packed items in your luggage
REI sells insect repellent towelettes that could meet your needs and not require placement in a 3-1-1 quart bag.
Amazon has packets of OFF towelettes that are easy to put in your bag, just in case. And there might not be many mosquitoes but last August there were tons of yellow jackets which were very annoying when trying to eat outside.
Depends on where you are. Where I live (Wengen) there are definitelly mosquitos, and we have mosquito screens on the windows because of that. Another annoyance are horse flies.
So yes, bug repellant is standard part of our hiking kit.
Thank you. Just ordered Off toweletts since we will be staying near Wengen and hiking for 4 days. Thanks
I ordered insect repellent wipes to take with us on our upcoming trip because I also read that ticks can be a concern while hiking.
