dinner for one in Zermatt

I will be on my own in Zermatt for 4 nights in August. Can anyone recommend casual restaurants for a table for one? I don't want anything fancy. There is SO much information out there on Zermatt restaurants and it all about the "best" or "cheapest", not about best for a single diner. Thanks!

What's good for two or more is good for one! Whatever recommendation you see will apply to you. Counter seating is very uncommon in Europe, so you'll end up at a table (by yourself) anyway.

I’m a big fan of brezelkonig sandwiches at the train station. The avocado is my favorite.

I was only in Zermatt for the day, so i did not have dinner there. My last trip to Switzerland was a solo trip. I often grab a sandwich from coop or migros for lunch.

When i was walking down the main street in zermatt last year, i remember seeing a lot of restaurants. I like to eat my dinner around 4 pm, so i never bothered with reservations anywhere.

I have yet to have a bad meal in Switzerland. So, i think you're fine to walk around and see what looks good. Or do a google search for restaurants near your hotel and see what looks good. I always look for italian.

I liked zermatt so much that i'm going to stay there a few nights next June.

Have a great trip!! And if you come across any restaurants you like, please report back.

I remember a place in Zermatt called Metzgerei Bayard which was a butcher shop about a 2 minute walk from the train station on the bahnhofstrasse. Outside they were grilling their homemade sausages. Need I say more. Enjoy.

I ate by myself at a place called Grampie’s while in Zermatt last September. I had a taste for pasta but the pizzas looked good too. I had no trouble getting a table for myself, I think you will be able to eat almost anywhere but you probably won’t be able to get fondue, I found most restaurants offered it for two people as a minimum.

don't many Migros and Coop locations have cafeteria or sitdown dining? And don't forget train station options.

liz,

I do a lot of solo travel and I've generally found that the front desk staff at hotels are able to offer good recommendations for local restaurants. However I sometimes just wander around until I find a restaurant that looks interesting and give it a try. I always check the menus that are posted outside. If they're not too busy and have seats available, they don't seem to mind solo travellers.
