We have a tour scheduled and would like to visit a friend in Italy. It would require us to leave Mureen (Switzerland) & take the train to Milan. We would be off tour for one night, before rejoining the goup.
Is this allowed? Any procedures or required paperwork?

If you are referring to a Rick Steves tour, or for that matter any tour company, you should contact the tour office with your specific questions.
I recommend contacting the RS Tour department directly with your question.
You've already paid for the whole tour, unless you're seeking some kind of refund or credit it should be fine to just tell your guide Hey I'll see you guys in ____________ don't wait up (fill in the blank).
You can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't affect the rest of the tour.
Talk to your guide to coordinate where and when to meet up with the group.
I've done it on an RS tour and it wasn't a problem.
Thanks for the responses. Seems logical to be able leave & return @ an
agreed upon time & place. Fortunately, its the same village, same room & same clothes!!!

It would be akind to taking a day off from the tour activities. It’s perfectly acceptable. Discuss with the guide at the start of the tour preferably the first meeting. He/she may be able to make recommendations for smooth transition during that time period if needed.
