Just wanted to say that for the third time Delta sent me an email saying my route to Zurich had been altered …….putting me 12 hours later into Zurich and losing a half day of my trip. Hubby and I called them last night and got a wonderful agent that helped us get things back to where we originally wanted them……she was very kind but reminded us that since our trip is 7 weeks away it could change again…….!!!!!!!!!!! Cannot understand why this happens when they seem to put everything right back it was when you call!
Ah, that makes more sense than what popped into my head. I initially thought, "wow, this variant is a real bear. It can even change your airline reservations."
Where are you flying out of? My sister and I had a trip booked DTW-JFK-ZRH early October. Delta changed it to DTW-JFK-AMS-ZRH with a 50 minute layover/plane change in AMS. There is no way we would get thru Schiphol in 50 minutes AND get to another terminal for Swiss Air. I called and was on hold for quite a while but changed our flight to DTW-CDG. We are taking the TGV to Geneva then SBB to our final destination near Interlaken. Needless to say, I was not pleased that they did this. The Delta rep that I spoke with said the JFK-ZRH service does not start until 10/8.
Oh no!! Not again Jane!!! I've heard of so many issues with Delta and schedule changes it makes me never want to fly with them.
Luckily, my Swiss Air flight from Chicago nonstop to Zurich has remained unchanged. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
The airlines are struggling to figure this all out too. Their models for predicting demand are all useless so schedules are in flux.
The changes are made by a computer so if your flight gets cancelled then the computer re-routes you. It might not be what you want, but it's not really nefarious as you seem to think.
Those of you who haven't been impacted are just lucky. I follow all the airlines and Delta does not have a monopoly on schedule changes right now
And here’s a reminder that if you check your flight routing, also check your seat assignments. Our routing has remained stable but when we checked recently our seats changed and we weren’t even in the same row. They’d had an equipment change. Fortunately there were still clusters of empty seats so we were able to select 2 seats together but we’ll keep checking on our late August flight.
Just edited and corrected:
My husband just found a site called -
Flight Aware
We have just now discovered that our Sept return flight hasn't flown since March 2020.. When will the cancelation notice arrive????
Other airlines are having the same issues and cancellations. It's not really a "Delta" problem.
Read the Points Guy article today about Delta playing around with its routes. It's all based on supply and demand.
Airlines are suffering labor shortages after the shrinking during the pandemic. American Airlines has also cancelled hundreds of flights recently.
"Though the company seems to be emphasizing weather as a leading cause for cancellations, this may be because weather provides a valid reason to cancel a flight without legally requiring the airline to make accommodations for travelers—a widespread labor shortage, however, may not provide the same leeway."
We've been changed three times as well. Luckily we are platinum so we avoid a few of the headaches.
Yes, my September trip to Italy has been changed, not sure how many times. Complicating things is that we leave from a regional airport, so some routes were curtailed earlier, some added back, many shifted. So my CID to FCO flight has seen stops in DTW, MSP, ATL, BOS, AMS, JFK, and would have seen CDG, but I nixed that one. Changes included even a departure two days later, twice, having to drag them back to the correct date, and a change from Delta to KLM flagged craft.
The latest change has me flying all over, I will probably let it go until things settle more (there is no current better solution) and then call.
When our outbound blights were canceled by British Airways last week, my husband found a site called Flight Aware. We discovered that the flights we were sold hadn't flown since March, 2020, and that BA still isn't flying into San Diego. Waiting for the return to be canceled. We did rebook thru the partner airlines, American.
Good luck and safe travels!
