Day trips from Thun-early Nov

I am looking for ideas for daytrips from Thun. We will have already done the B-O region, Luzern and Zurich.
I was thinking I would do Bern for a day. I am interested in St Gallen but is it too far for a daytrip?
I am looking for areas that the sights are easily accessible from the train stations.

Not as a daytrip but is Basel worth a visit?
Thanks.

St. Gallen is one hour from Zürich, you could see it when you are there.

From Thun:

  • Bern - 20 min
  • Kandersteg - 40 min
  • Murten - 1 hr
  • Lausanne - 1.5 hr
  • Gstaad - 1.5 hr

Kandersteg and Gstaad are (in my opinion) hiking destinations, surrounded by mountains. The towns themselves aren't particularly noteworthy.

Other things to do:

  • Boat on Lake Thun
  • Beatus Caves
  • Thun castle (only open Sundays in November)
  • Local mountain: Niederhorn

Only you can decide what distance still works as a day trip....

St. Gallen is about 2.5 hours away from Thun, for me that would be OK. St. Gallen was founded by St. Gall, an Irish saint and there are some interesting Gaelic texts there..

Another option would be to take the boat on lake Thun down to Interlaken and then take the bus back along the shore line. This is on the opposite side to the normal train route and I enjoy it very much.

Another idea would be to take the train to Solothurn, ferry down the Aare river to Biel and then a train back to Thun. As it's autumn and the shores of the river are very wooded there should be a good display of autumn colours in sight.
