Hello! My husband and I are traveling to Geneva for 7 days in September and planning to stay nearly the entire trip in Geneva as a home base, aside from one night in Zermatt, but otherwise doing day trips by train. We plan to get the Swiss Travel Pass but were wondering if the pass will cover transportation to and from Chamonix, and if it covers other bordering French cities? We have tentative plans for other Swiss citiies to visit (Gruyere, Lucerne, Lausanne) but are open to suggestion for day trips from Geneva. Thank you so much.
Have you consulted the Swiss Travel Pass map here? (Don't worry, it blows up quite a bit!) It appears most of the included rail lines terminate at the border. Chaminox is definitely solid grey, i.e. not included. One exception or "hack": you can use the included Lake Geneva ferry system to go to Evian as well as the half-Swiss/half-French town of St-Gingolph.
Is this a business trip? Otherwise I see no reason to stay in Geneva. Vevey or Montreux would be a lot better for what you want to do.
The STP will get you as far as Vallorcine, then you buy a ticket for the continuation to Chamonix, less than 10 EUR I believe.
Thank you so much! Great info all around. It is not a business trip, very helpful suggestions. Thank you.
